How you can support St. Edward's

Choosing to support St Edward’s financially is an excellent way of helping to ensure our future, whatever challenges lie ahead.

We are seeking gifts at a variety of levels. The table below illustrates how easy it can be to make a significant gift to the School by spreading the payments over a number of years. The cost of such gifts can be reduced substantially by claiming tax relief. As a registered charity, St Edward's School can reclaim tax on all donations made by UK taxpayers, thus maximising the value of the gift to the School.
A number of substantial, pace-setting gifts are needed if the School is to meet its target.

Taking Advantage of Gift Aid
There is no limit for Gift Aid donations, which are the tax-efficient way of giving for those who wish to make a gift or a series of single gifts without forward commitment. As with covenants, income tax can be re-claimed. The higher rate tax relief also applies.

Gifts of Shares

From April 2000 gifts of publicly quoted shares, in addition to being exempt from capital gains tax liability, enable the donor to claim income tax relief on the current value of the shares, which can make the gift extremely tax efficient. The Development Office can arrange for you to receive in-depth advice on share giving.

Legacies

A legacy pledge can provide a more suitable opportunity to make a substantial contribution to the School and help to secure its future for generations to come. You can also reduce the total tax liability of your estate to your family. All legacies are free from Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance tax.
Making a legacy pledge to St Edward's School is quite straightforward. It can be done either when making a will for the first time or, by adding a codicil to an existing will.

Gifts of property and works of art

Direct transfers of assets such as property and works of art do not incur capital gains tax. This type of gift provides the opportunity to make a substantial gift from existing stocks. Tax relief on gifts of property works in a similar way to gifts of shares to charity.
