The Simeon Society

A legacy pledge can provide a more suitable opportunity to make a substantial contribution to the School and help to secure its future for generations to come. You can also reduce the total tax liability of your estate to your family. All legacies are free from Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance tax. Making a legacy pledge to St Edward's School is quite straightforward. It can be done either when making a will for the first time or, by adding a codicil to an existing will.

The Simeon Society was formed up in 2005 to recognise all those who have made provision for St Edward’s in their wills. Everyone from the St Edward’s community, from OSE, current and former parents, friends, governors, staff and other supporters are eligible to become Members of the Simeon Society and are invited to an annual lunch at the School.

If you wish to discuss your legacy, please contact Rebecca Ting. Your enquiry will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Fifth Lunch of the Simeon Society

On Friday 21 May, the Warden welcomed Society members and their guests to the Fifth Lunch of the Simeon Society.

The venue this time was the new Martyrs Pavilion facing onto Upper 1, which proved a fantastic location for a delicious lunch on a blissfully sunny day.

Two pupils from the Lower VI, Edward Lea and Fiona Shajko spoke eloquently about what the School means to them.

We were especially delighted to welcome David Parnwell, who proposed a very moving toast to the School.

Membership of the Simeon Society is open to those who have pledged to make a gift to the School in their wills. Algernon Simeon was the first warden of St Edward's and he oversaw the development of the Quad buildings, seen in a lithograph dated 1880 entitled 'Simeon's Dream'. St Edward's has never enjoyed the security of an endowment, therefore the generous support of its wider community remains vital to ensure that the School's distinctive opportunities are enhanced and preserved.

To date the Simeon Society has 43 members. If you would like to become a member of the Simeon Society by making a legacy pledge please contact Rebecca Ting on 01865 319 362 or tingr@stedwards.oxon.sch.uk
