St Edward’s IB results: pupils in
the top 1% of students worldwide
Pupils at St Edward’s, one of the few Oxford
schools to offer the rigorous International
Baccalaureate syllabus, have achieved staggering
success with the School’s first ever set of
results.
Two of its pupils, Head Girl Lily
French, 18, and Ed Coats, 17, achieved results
which place them in the top 1% of students
worldwide. Ed missed achieving the highest
possible score by just one point and will now take
up his place to read Classics at Christ’s College,
Cambridge. Lily is expected to make an application
to study at Oxford or Cambridge next year.
Twenty nine pupils at St Edward’s opted for the IB
syllabus as an alternative to A-level because of
the breadth and scope of the programme. Over a
quarter of them achieved 38 points or more, which
equates to more than 4 A*s at A-level. More than
half achieved maximum points in the core
components – the extended essay and the Theory of
Knowledge – often regarded as among the most
challenging aspects of the diploma.
Andrew
Trotman, Warden at St Edward’s, said, “We are
delighted with this first set of results and are
very proud of our pupils who have worked extremely
hard and deserve their success. In addition to
preparing for exams in 6 subjects, the pupils have
all submitted a 4,000 word essay and carried out
more than150 hours of sport, creative activity and
community service. The IB demands a high degree of
intellectual curiosity and independent study; our
IB students have brought a new and stimulating
dimension to the academic life of the School, from
which all pupils benefit”.
