Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold Practice Expeditions

11 - 14th February 2010:

At the start of the Spring half term break two different Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold Practice Expeditions took place.

The Gold Canoeing practice took place on the Upper Wye from the 11th - 13th February. Although the river was fairly low, there was still enough water present to enable many different canoeing skills to be learnt and perfected, as well as camping and map-reading skills.

The Gold Walking Practice took place in mid-Wales. 33 Pupils and 9 Staff left School on 12th February and headed for Clyro where the afternoon was spent learning navigation skills. On the 13th February the Teams walked to New Radnor and then on the Sunday (14th) the Teams walked to Llanunllo, before heading back to Oxford. The exercise proved to be useful for honing camping and walking abilities as well as encouraging the forming of good Team spirit.

The final walking Expedition will be in the Lake District during the first week of the Easter holidays.
