On Saturday 6th February 60 St Edward’s
pupils took part in a fabulous Dance Show in the
School Hall.
A wide variety of dance styles were displayed
including ballet, street jazz, tap, contemporary, hip
hop, musical theatre, flamenco and even cheerleading.
At the end of the show, senior dancer Charlotte Avern
(UVI), who performed an excellent ballet solo, thanked
the expert team of dance teachers for creating some
highly imaginative choreography throughout the evening.
The dancers were supported by some wonderful sound
(provided by James Adkins UVI) and light (provided by
Max Narula LVI) and the packed hall was treated to a
fast-moving show of real quality.
On Sunday 7th
February two St Edward’s orchestras consisting of 40
pupils performed in the Orchestral Concert in the School
Hall.
This was an occasion for the Symphony Orchestra
and Chamber Orchestra to display their skills. The
Chamber Orchestra opened the programme with the
Intermezzo from the Háry János Suite by Kodály
under the direction of Music Graduate Assistant Ed Bell
and the first two movements of Beethoven’s First
Symphony under Mr Damiani.
Both items were delivered with great skill and
precision.
The Symphony Orchestra completed the programme under
the direction of Mr Tester with four items: Mozart’s
Magic Flute Overture, March to the Scaffold
by Berlioz, Strauss’ Blue Danube and the
rousing Radetzky March.
The pupils played a demanding programme with
considerable flair.
Collections were taken at the
end of both events and Ł650 was raised for the Haiti
Earthquake Appeal.
