Where: Oxford Brookes University Indoor Climbing
Wall, or outside at weekends.
When: Wednesdays, weekends and holidays
Who: Anyone with parents' permission. Written parental
permission is essential.
During the week there are afternoon visits to the wall
at Brookes University or abseiling and sometimes prussiking
practice off the roof of the Science Block.
There are also meets usually once or twice a term, to
climb at Cleeve Hill, above Cheltenham, or in the Wye
Valley. Sometimes there are weekend meets to the Peak
District, or Snowdonia.
In the holidays, trips are made further afield, recently
a climbing expedition to the Alps where Castor, a 4000m
peak was climbed, while other trips have been made to
the Pyrenees. No pupils are allowed to climb without parental
permission: climbing is inherently a dangerous sport,
yet if carried out sensibly, an immensely rewarding one.
